I may be speaking from the soap-box of Western medicine, but this diet really is a sham. There have been a number of these ‘diets’ developed for commercial gain that utilize a single fancy piece of science and twist it so that people will believe that it is the single most important thing to weight loss (Eg, acai berry, blood type diet etc.) The hCG diet WILL work if you do it…but not because of hCG, but because the diet also directs users to eat less junk and more high fiber foods. In fact, it is touted as an “ultra-low calorie diet.” That is the real science – fewer calories in, more calories out.
In the meantime, diets like this are continuing to promote potentially dangerous interventions (such as injecting hormones for which the body already has tightly regulated set-points), for which there is no oversight, patient monitoring or safety parameters. Remember, the fen-phen diet also “worked”…it just fried a few hearts along the way before we realized that we shouldn’t do it.
Unless you are prepared to inject your body with hormones for the rest of your life – you should reconsider your approach to weight loss and healthful eating…it can not be a temporary measure done solely for the sake of vanity.
